Lewis Wesley Smith

   Lewis Wesley Smith, 63, of 185 North Fir Street, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in his home.

   Mr. Smith was born in New York on May 11, 1953, and was the son of the late Lewis Frederick and Donna Syx Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas McLaughlin.

   Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Nancy Haley Smith; five step-daughters, Violet Shelton of Hertford, Rose Perry of Roanoke Rapids, Karena Anderson of Maryland, Geraldine Allen of Hertford, and Tyie Phibbons of Tyner; two step-sons, Harry Clubb of Hertford and Dwayne Midgette of Elizabeth City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the mausoleum chapel at West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Friends may join the family Sunday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and again at the home of his step-son, Harry, 1573 Ocean Hwy South, Edenton, immediately following the service on Monday.
