Billy Nixon

   William Alton “Billy” Nixon, 85, of 1696 Hwy 37 South, Hobbsville, NC, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Down East Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville.

   Mr. Nixon was born in Chowan County on August 15, 1931, and was the son of the late William A. and Bera Wilson Nixon. Retired from Planters Peanuts in Suffolk, VA after 34 years of employment, he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, and had served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Nixon; sisters, Eva, Thelma, Eunice, and Edna; and by brothers, Gibson, Robert, Archie, and Maurice.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 66 years, Thelma Cayton Nixon; his daughter, Nancy Nixon Hatfield and husband Lester of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Karen Hatfield, Karla Sraver and husband B.J., and Alan Hatfield; and by four great-grandchildren, Austin, Avery, Treslyn, and Raylan.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Young. A private burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
