Bobby Harrell

   Robert Louis “Bobby” Harrell, Sr., 82, of 1292 NC Hwy 137, Eure, NC, died Thursday, December 22, 2016 in his home.

   Mr. Harrell was born in Gates County on November 27, 1934, and was the son of the late Jewel Randolph and Nellie Mullen Harrell. Raised in the fellowship of Cool Spring Baptist Church, in the 1950’s he pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies before returning home to farm, and later retired from the Roll Finishing Department at Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, VA.

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Randolph and Joe Duke Harrell; and by his brother-in-law, Ray Doughtie.

   Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jean Harrell; three daughters, Bobbie Jean Wynns and husband Joe of Buies Creek, Deborah Anne Forehand and husband Randy of Suffolk, VA, and Bonnie Lou Snyder and husband David of Randleman; three sons, Robert L. Harrell, Jr. and wife Judy of Aydlett, Steven P. Harrell and wife Pascale of Eure, and Mark D. Harrell of Greensboro; his sister, Iris H. Doughtie of Gatesville; a sister-in-law, O’Neill Harrell of Eure; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27th, at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. Joseph B. Wynns and the Rev. Joe McKnight. Burial will follow on the family plot in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the cemetery fund of Cool Spring Baptist Church, in care of the church treasurer Merwin Bauerle, 460 US Hwy 13 South, Eure, NC 27935.
