Vilma Bright Umphlett

   Vilma Bright Umphlett, 85, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Elizabeth City.

 

   Mrs. Umphlett was born in Pasquotank County on May 21, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Christine Bright. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton Umphlett and by a granddaughter.

 

   Surviving are her three daughters, Wanda Morse, Kathy Eason, and Darlene McLawhorn, all of Elizabeth City; a son, Lloyd Smithwick of Windsor; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

 

   Graveside services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, and will be officiated by Scott Collins. Friends may join the family Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.

 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/donate).
