Ann Turnage Hill

   Mary Ann Turnage Hill, 89, of Hwy 158 E, Sunbury, NC, died on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

 

Mrs. Hill was born in Pitt County on June 25, 1927, was the daughter of the late Lester Earl and Wesley Laughinghouse Turnage, and the wife of the late John Darius Hill, Sr. A retired teacher from the Gates County Public School System, she was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church.

 

   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John Darius Hill, Jr.

   Surviving are her daughter, Mary Turnage Hill Cullop of Lexington, NC; her daughter-in-law, Dora C. Hill of Sunbury; three grandchildren, Sarah Ann Hill and Mary Elizabeth Hill, both of Sunbury, and Richard James “Ricky” Cullop and wife Jennifer of Columbia, SC; and two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Marie and Henry James Cullop.

 

   A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14th, at 3:00 p.m. in Philadelphia United Methodist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Steven Hall. A private inurnment will be in the Cross Family Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church immediately following the service. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is handling arrangements.

 

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Philadelphia U.M.C., in care of Ed Morgan, P.O. Box 300, Sunbury, NC 27979.
