Jerry Wayne Whedbee

   Jerry Wayne Whedbee, 71, of 101 Russell Drive, Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Whedbee was born in Perquimans County on May 8, 1945, and was the son of the late Elsberry and Catherine Smith Whedbee. Retired after serving 22 years in the United States Coast Guard, he later retired from civil service, and was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thurman "Snake" Whedbee.

   Surviving are his wife, Joyce Lane Whedbee; two daughters, Dena Whedbee Hale and husband Scott of Burke, VA, and Karen Whedbee Simmons and husband Dan of Elizabeth City; and four grandchildren, Noah and Leah Hale, and Jenna and Abby Simmons.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Riverside United Methodist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Delores Langley. Military Honors will be accorded at the church, and a private burial will be in the Up River Cemetery in the Whiteston community of Perquimans County. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
