Carolyn Matthews Lane

   Carolyn Matthews Lane, 82, of 903 W. Grubb Street, Hertford, NC passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 in her home.

   Mrs. Lane was born in Perquimans County on October 18, 1934, and was the daughter of the late John Moody, Sr. and Mattie Blanchard Matthews.  A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church and its Mary Martha Circle, and was very active in the community through the years having volunteered with various organizations including Open Door Food Pantry and for 15 years with Albemarle Hospital.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Moody Matthews, Jr., and by a grandson, Dustin Lane.

   Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Lloyd A. Lane; three children, Tony Lane and companion Cynthia Owens of Hertford, Carol Stallings and husband Richard Earl of Belvidere, and Dean M. Lane of Edenton; a sister, Ann Henry of Palm Coast, FL; four grandchildren, Melanie Mosley (Macon), Kim Monds (Alan), Amanda Mosley (C.J.), and Keegan Lane; and four great-grandchildren, Danielle, Hunter, Tyler, and Noah.

   A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Jane Leechford.  Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.

   Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
