Gene English, Sr.

   Eldridge Eugene "Gene" English, Sr., 81, of 481 Sandy Hook Road, Shawboro, NC, died Friday, January 20, 2017 in Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Elizabeth City.

    Mr. English was born in Hyde County on December 30, 1935, and was the son of the late Eldridge Lundy and Zulean Pegram English. A retired carpet installer, he was a member of Riddle Pentecostal Holiness Church, and the Currituck Square Dance Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Gertrude Armstrong, Eunice Harrell, and Mary Elizabeth English; and by two brothers, Walter and Elbert English.

   Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lillie Forbes English; two sons, Eldridge E. "Gene" English, Jr. and wife Janie of Elizabeth City and Timothy Wayne English and wife Marjie of Shawboro; a sister, Josephine Fletcher of Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren, Bobby (Charity), Trudy, T.J. (Jessica), Katie (Roberto), Amy (Matt), Heather, and Holly (Tyson); and 14 great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held Friday, January 27th at 2:00 p.m. in Riddle Pentecostal Holiness Church, Shiloh, and will be officiated by Pastor Jon Mason. Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
