Carolyn Rae Lane Baker, 71, of 105 Wingfield Street, Hertford, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in her home where she was surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Baker was born in Perquimans County on December 27, 1945, and was a daughter of the late Vernon Charlie and Katherine Elizabeth Nixon Lane. A homemaker, for over 20 years she had worked as a decorating consultant, a job she dearly loved. With her husband, she worshipped at Up River Friends Meeting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Linwood Twine; her twin sister, Kathryn "Teenie" Lamb, and by Lester's son-in-law, Bob Mize, Jr.
Surviving are her husband, Lester J. Baker; two children, Glenn "Buckwheat" Twine of Belvidere, and Bridget Twine Markham and husband Brandon of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren, Tarlie Twine of Hertford, and Lane and Leyton Markham of Elizabeth City; and her sister, Pat Carver of Belvidere. Also surviving are Lester's family; his son, Julian Baker and wife Connie of Belvidere, and his daughter Dianne Mize of Elizabeth City; grandchildren, Charles Baker and wife Lynette, Chris Baker and wife Tabatha, all of Belvidere, and Nicole Barton and husband Todd of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Carlton, Carissa, Chase, and Claire Ann Baker of Belvidere, and Lucas and Maddox Barton of Raleigh.
Carolyn leaves many special friends that she loved so much; Betty Byrum, who stood by her from day one, Wilma Hare, Bonnie B. Rowe, Sharon Zook, Barbara Pivinski, Judy R. Call, Brenda Toppin, Muriel Twine, June Layden, Lena Mansfield, and Kay Winslow. The family appreciates their love and friendship so much.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastors Chuck Hartman and Joe Buck. The family will receive friends in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
