Velma Waterman Cohen

   Velma Mae Waterman Cohen, 76, of Spindrift Lane, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, January 29, 2017.

   Mrs. Cohen was born in Norfolk, VA on December 19, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Ryland White Waterman and Anne Sessoms Elmore. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Abraham Cohen, Jr.; a daughter, Charlotte Cohen; a son-in-law, Theron Hodges; two sisters, Charlene Bensmore and Louise Rowe; and by a brother, Eddie Waterman.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Elizabeth Bien (Paul) of Virginia Beach, VA and Susan Hodges of Columbia, TX; four sons, Sammy Cohen of Norfolk, VA, William Cohen (Charlotte) of Hertford, Tracy Cohen of Gatesville, and Carl Cohen (Lena) of Edenton; an adopted son, Chad Trotman (Shannon) of Hertford; two sisters, Lorraine Wentworth of Mobile, AL and Linda Sasser of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Joe Waterman, also of Baltimore; nine grandchildren, Sam Jr., Michael, Christopher, and Anthony Cohen, Bobbi Hartwell, Cassandra Bennett, Andrew Yanuzis, and Sarah and Michael Bien; and six great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
