Dorothy Eason Yates

   Dorothy Marie Eason Yates, 84, of 112 Barker Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

   Mrs. Yates was born in Brooklyn, NY, on May 4, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Nichols T. and Edna Fletcher Eason. A long-time member of Macedonia Baptist Church, she taught the three year old’s Sunday School Class with her dear friend, Dot Titus, for over 30 years. A stay-at-home mother, she contributed to the family well-being by keeping children in her home for over 25 years. The children she touched in both of those areas created many wonderful memories for her.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Edward Yates, Jr.

   Surviving are her husband of 65 years, James E. “Jimmy” Yates; three daughters, Cindy Yates Wilson of Wilmington, Gail Yates Carnagua and husband Rick of Cary, and Dianne Yates Sauls of Wilson; four grandchildren, Toni Carnagua Beal (Chris) of Cary, Randall Adam Wilson of Charleston, SC, Catie Wilson Hartman (Ryan) of Rocky Mount, and Dustin Richard Kintzele (Leanne) of Wilson; and seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Ellie, Lucy, and Griffin Beal, Madison Hartman, and Landon and Brendon Kintzele.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Bob Young. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the church social hall the hour prior to services on Wednesday, and all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 1004 Macedonia Road, Edenton, NC 27932, where they will be used to the benefit of the children’s ministry.
