Mildred Wheeler Morgan, 82, of 619 Daniels Road, Corapeake, NC, died Friday, February 10, 2017 in her home.
Mrs. Morgan was born in Northampton County on December 27, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Lewis Elliott and Emily Vick Barnes Wheeler. A graduate of Chowan College and Wake Forest University, she was a retired school teacher having taught a total of 42 years. An active member of Eureka Baptist Church, she faithfully served on numerous church committees, and always had a passion for any of the mission ministries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Jackie P. Morgan; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Cowart; a brother, William L. “Billy” Wheeler; and by a nephew, Wade A. Morgan.
Surviving are her son, Johnny C. Morgan and wife Renay of Sneads Ferry; a daughter, Sharon L. Byrd and husband Adam of Portsmouth, VA; special nieces, Kristi, Betsy, and Janice; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many more special nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Eureka Baptist Church, and will be officiated by The Revs. David Lawson and Mickey Willard. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eureka Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Corapeake, NC 27926, and be directed for use in any of the mission ministries.
