Bobby Gene Grant

   Bobby Gene Grant, 73, of 1400 NC 137, Eure, NC, died Monday, February 20, 2017 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

   Mr. Grant was born in Northampton County on July 14, 1943, and was the son of the late Lawrence S. and Brownie Martin Grant. Retiring in 2009 from the Dye Department of Union Camp Corp., now International Paper, in Franklin, VA, he was a loyal employee there for 43 years. Community involvement included membership in the Eure Volunteer Fire Dept., the White Oak Hunting Club, and Cool Spring Baptist Church.

   Bobby was known for his love of animals, rescuing everything from squirrels to pigs. He loved to be outside tinkering, and was a dedicated father and grandfather, always making time for the grandkids.

   Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Irma Horton Grant; a son, Johnny Grant and wife Sherry; a daughter, Wanda Hoggard and husband Gene; three grandchildren, Jennifer Richmond, “my little sweetheart” Lillian Grant, and “Tadpole” Hayden Hoggard; and a great-grandchild, Emory Kate Richmond. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Lessie Pernell and husband Jimmy, Bessie Futrell and husband Wayne, and Cathy Horton and fiancé Ralph “Red” Goodwin; and his special friends, Terry and Cleo Craddock.

   The family is planning a private service for a later time. They will receive friends Wednesday, February 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johnny and Sherry’s home, 229 Hackley Road, Gates.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Cool Spring Baptist Church, in care of Merwin Bauerle, 460 US Hwy 13 South, or to the Eure Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 10, both in Eure, NC 27935.
