Jerry Duane Coleson

   Jerry Duane Coleson, 62, of 429 Haughton Road, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

   Mr. Coleson was born in Tyrrell County on July 31, 1954, and was the son of the late Jesse Fate and Hazel Bell Phelps Coleson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Harriet Cole.

   After serving in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Coleson owned and operated Coleson’s Welding, working many years locally in addition to contracting with the Norfolk Southern Corp. Piedmont Bridge Division. Through those years, his hard work and dedication earned him great respect from those who knew him.

   Surviving are his wife, Estelle Davenport Coleson; a son, Lance J. Coleson of Edenton; a daughter, Dana L. Springle of Greenville; two sisters, June Alexander and Janice Prenderville, both of Edenton; a brother, Doug Coleson of Florence, AZ; and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by The Rev. Bob Brock. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
