John Calvin Skinner, Sr., 90, of 251 Hickory Fork Road, Edenton, NC, left his body to seek comfort in the Lord’s arms on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
Mr. Skinner was born in Chowan County on February 14, 1927, and was the son of the late Johnny Lafayette Skinner and Mary Elizabeth Moore Skinner. Born on such a special day that is represented for love, hugs, kisses, and big hearts, he lived his life showing love to everyone as if “Valentine’s Day” was every day. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater, specifically the Philippines, and was later employed and retired after 32 years as both a Boiler Room Engineer Operator, and as a Special Police Officer, with the Federal Government in Washington, DC.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 66 years, Evelyn V. Hill Skinner; four children, Margaret A. Worthy, William “Billy” Skinner and wife Sharon, Judy V. Skinner, and Kathy S. Alston and husband Garry; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. in Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, 4606 Leroy Gorham Drive, Capitol Heights, MD 20743 (Phone 301-322-1529).
Arrangements for inurnment are being planned and will take place in Arlington National Cemetery, where he will rest near his oldest son, John C. Skinner, Jr., who preceded him in death.
