Hillary James Scaff

   Hillary James Scaff, 86, of 600 Swing Gate Road, Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, February 25, 2017, in his home.

   Mr. Scaff was born in Perquimans County on March 6, 1930, the only child of the late James Hillary and Sallie Byrum Scaff. Before retirement he worked for many years as a television technician at Hertford Motor Company. A faithful member of Hertford United Methodist Church, he was also a charter member of the Perquimans County Rescue Squad.

   Surviving are his wife of over 43 years, Barbara Allen Scaff; and three children and their families, son, David Scaff and his wife Betty of West Palm Beach, FL, and their children Martha Scaff, and David Hillary Scaff, Jr.; daughter Sandra S. Ryan and her husband Tom of Taunton, MA, and their children, Matthew Ryan and wife Jessica, and Chris Ryan; and son Derek Scaff and his wife Dabney of Hertford, and their children Nathan James and Eby Anne Scaff.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Jane Leechford. Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
