Blanche Butler Campen, 99, formerly of Walters Street in Hertford, NC, and more recently of Edenton Prime Time Village, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017, in Vidant Chowan Hospital.
Mrs. Campen was born in Perquimans County on July 10, 1917, and was the daughter of the late George William and Lula Simpson Butler. Retired from the Perquimans County Department of Social Services, she was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she had served on its Altar Guild, and during World War II served for one year in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Earl Campen; an infant daughter, Barbara Lynn Campen; four sisters, Beatrice Barclift, June Read, Mattie Elizabeth Butler, and Nellie Lewis; and by four brothers, Wayland, Hudson, George, Jr., and Fenton Butler.
Surviving are her brother, Colon Butler and wife Ada of Edenton; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery and will be officiated by The Rev. Robert W. Beauchamp. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the home of her brother, 3018 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton.
