Carroll Smith

   Wilburn Carroll Smith, 85, of 144 Tip Toe Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Smith was born in Chowan County on October 7, 1931, and was the son of the late Tony Wilburn and Gwendolyn “Pete” Sutton Smith. The retired owner and operator of Northside Auto, he was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he had served as both a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Other community involvement included membership in the Advance Ruritan Club, and longtime service as an Auxiliary Deputy with the Chowan County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Smith had retired as a Master Sergeant after 36 years of service with the North Carolina Army National Guard.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Smith.

   Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Lee Jones Smith; his son, Glen Smith of Edenton; two sisters, Betty Bateman of Hertford and Toni Kuyendall of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Amy, Heather, Daniel, and Samantha; five great-grandchildren, Jacyee, John Paul, Kaleigh, Ayden, and Brady; and by his little canine buddy, Cocoa.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Bob Young. Military honors will follow and will be accorded on the church lawn, and a private burial will follow at Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
