Lessie Chappell Hobbs

   Lessie Chappell Benton Hobbs, 91, of 1808 County Line Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 11, 2017 in her home.

 

   Mrs. Hobbs was born in Chowan County on May 25, 1925, and was the daughter of the late John Ervin and Rehem Dail Chappell. A homemaker, she attended Hobbsville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wendell Sherlock Benton and Edison Ambrose Hobbs; and by a son-in-law, John O’Tuel.

 

   Surviving are her five daughters, Judy O’Tuel of Concord, Bonnie Rowe and husband Jim of Grafton, VA, Dianne Hunter and husband Milton of Hertford, Wendy Pierce of San Antonio, TX, and Peggy Allen of New Bern; a son, Michael Benton and wife Ann of Raleigh; five sisters, Lois Hobbs of Hobbsville, Lillie Rae Askew of Eure, Bertha Gay Talbot of Louisville, MS, Janice Wood of Edenton, and Paige Stallings of Belvidere; three brothers, Wilmer Chappell of Belvidere, John Wesley Chappell of Virginia Beach, VA, and J. H. Chappell of Edenton; 11 grandchildren, Robin Johnson, Timothy and Matthew Readling, Stacey and Kelly Barnett, Rachel and Quinton Pierce, Bo Benton, Katie Barrow, and Brooke and Taylor Benton; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church, 405 Hobbsville Road, Hobbsville, and will be officiated by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. A private burial will be in the Stallings Family Cemetery at the home. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

   Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Hobbsville Baptist Church, in care of Jean Hobbs, PO Box 15, Hobbsville, NC 27946.
