Lloyd Baker “Puddin” Byrum, 73, of 51 Orchard Street, Sunbury, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in his home.
Mr. Byrum was born in Gates County on January 1, 1944, and was the son of the late William Baker and Ruth Hollowell Byrum. A retired foreman from the pipefitting department of Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he was a member and deacon of Middle Swamp Baptist Church, had served as secretary of the Sunbury Ruritan Club, was a member of Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126, and had formerly been active in the Gates County Jaycees where he was a founding member of the Eason’s Crossroads Ballpark Association.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Juanita White Byrum; a daughter, Michele B. Blair and husband Dennis of Franklin, VA; a son, Michael L. Byrum and wife Gretchen of Hobbsville; a brother, Johnny Byrum and wife Marianne of Porterville, CA; seven grandchildren, Blake, Blair, and Kenzie Byrum, and Jacob, Devon, Baker, and Mason Blair; and his best friend and fishing partner, M.Q. Umphlett.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Revs. Burt Pearce and Russell Blanchard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be to the Gates County Relay for Life. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Jenny Cowper, 893 NC 137, Eure, NC 27935.
