Edward Lee Shelton

   Edward Lee Shelton, 69, of 311 Holiday Island Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.       Mr. Shelton was born in Nashville, TN on September 27, 1947, and was the son of the late William Barber and Nellie Geneva Wilson Shelton.  A retired commercial painter, he was an old car enthusiast.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Trudy and Martha, a brother, Jerry, and by a great-grandson, Declyn.    Surviving are his wife of over 30 years, Barbara Ann Voliva Shelton; three daughters, Angela Shelton Brumfield, Christine Elaine McDaniel, and Becky Ann Johnson; two sons, William Ray Whitehurst, Jr. and Robin Dale Whitehurst, Sr.; a sister, Bobbie; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.    A private family gathering will be held.  Friends may join the family at the residence.  Miller & Van Essendelft, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.    Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
