Norma Elaine Head Gorski, 62, a longtime resident of Chapel Hill, NC, and formerly of Sunbury, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 20, 2017 in her home. An automobile accident in 2003 had left her wheelchair dependent, and her husband and daughters had been her dedicated caregivers.
Born in London, England on March 18, 1955, she was the daughter of Norma Riddick Head Lassiter of Sunbury and the late Joseph Edward Head, Jr. and William H. “Billy” Lassiter. A graduate of Gates County High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a BA in psychology, her professional career included employment as a traffic manager at WCHL and later tracking and managing research grants at Duke University. Raised in the fellowship of Damascus Christian Church, she remained active in her faith and service to her community throughout the years.
In addition to her fathers, she was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Edward “Tony” Head.
Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband of 38 years, Jeffery Gorski; two daughters, Ashlee Wright (Mike) and Michelle Gorski (Trish), all of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Susan Head Umphlett (Robbie) of Gates and Melanie Lynn Lassiter of Carrollton, VA.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in Damascus Christian Church. A private inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
