Hazel Jordan Davis

   Hazel Jordan Davis, 96, of Ryland Road, Tyner, NC, died Friday, April 21, 2017, in Edenton House.

   Mrs. Davis was born in Tyner on January 15, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Ollie Norman and Annie Chappell Jordan. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, she retired from Gregory’s Five & Dime Department Store in Hertford, and later from her business, Davis Greenhouse of Ryland. A member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, she loved flowers, crocheting, crafts, and her family.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Easter Goodwin Jordan; her husband, Carson Davis; five sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Jordan, Beulah Mae Goodwin, Lillian Rhodes, Lois Jordan, and Ruth Longacre; and by five brothers, Jesse Melvin, Cary, Wilber, Hubert, and Robert Jordan.

   Surviving are her son, Calvin Davis (Faye) of Carrollton, VA; a daughter, Lucy Newsome (Giles) of Suffolk, VA; three sisters, Louise Dail of Hertford, Doris McGue and Sue Rogiano, both of Hatfield, PA; a brother, James “Teeny” Jordan of Edenton; four grandchildren, Angela Sayre, Janet Jones (Mark), Todd Davis (Stacie), and Dawn Newsome; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Sayre, Justin Jones, Heather Lebrija and Kelley Lebrija; and a great-great-grandson, Walker Ellis.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by the Revs. Ron Parr and Walter Byrum. A private burial will follow in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
