Rick Bruce

   Errol Richard “Rick” Bruce, 73, of 227 Tranquility Lane, Hertford, NC, died Thursday, April 20, 2017 in his home.

   Mr. Bruce was born in Westbrook, ME on September 28, 1943, and was the son of the late Wallace Morton and Rita Berthiaume Bruce. A Vietnam veteran, he retired as a Master Chief with the US Navy following more than 33 years of service, was a member of the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Holiday Island Yacht Club.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie Bruce; a sister, Carol Bruce; and by a step-son, Phillip Jones.

   Surviving are his fiancée, Barbara “Bobbie” Stilley; two daughters, Maureen McCarthy and husband Michael, and Bonnie Anderson and husband Jim; a step-daughter, Terry Long; and three step-sons, Dennis, Joey, and Larry Jones. Together Rick and Jeannie shared many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 29, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Holiday Island Yacht Club, 477 Holiday Island Drive, Hertford.

   Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with the cremation arrangements.
