Ambrose Carroll “A.C.” Layden, 72, of 1713 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 in his home.
Mr. Layden was born in Perquimans County on November 14, 1944, and was the son of the late Norman Floyd and Clara Virginia Nixon Layden. Retiring in 1993 as a Logistics Management Specialist with Norfolk Naval Shipyard after nearly 32 years of employment, he then worked as a commercial fisherman with his son, a job he described as his “lifelong dream”. He was member of Cape Colony Church of Christ in Edenton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Erleen Layden, Rita Layden, and Shirley Jordan; and by brothers, Clyde Grady Layden, Lawrence Layden, and William Layden.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Hazel Turner Layden; his daughter, Carol Layden Fligge and husband Bob of Rochester, Minnesota; his son, Floyd “Boots” Layden and wife Allison of Belvidere; his sister, Pamela Banks of Belvidere; and four grandchildren, Jesse, Cole, and Bella Layden, and Ethan Fligge.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Cape Colony Church of Christ and will be conducted by the Rev. Greg Biggs. Burial will follow in the family cemetery later that afternoon. Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
