Emmett Ray Halfhill, Jr., 70, of 1014 B Deep Run Lane, Tyner, NC, died Friday, May 5, 2017 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edenton.
Mr. Halfhill was born in Beaufort County on December 13, 1946, and was the son of the late Emmett Ray, Sr. and Effie Viola Davis Halfhill. A retired truck driver from Jordan Company, he was a member of Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church. Other community involvement included membership in the Advance Ruritan Club, with whom he had served as the District Governor for the Albemarle District of Ruritan National in 2003. A veteran, he proudly served in the US Marine Corps for four years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Wulff and Eloise Simpkins; and by a brother, Johnny Halfhill.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Emma Ashley Halfhill; his daughter, Jennifer Dunn and husband Barry of Tyner; five sisters, Peggy Westerman of Seaford, DE, Ann Kimball of Felton, DE, Ruth Sutton of Greenville, Jean Atkinson of Mesquite, TX, and Sue Klein of Redford, MI; a brother, Billy Halfhill of Windsor, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be officiated by Pastor Danny Gurganus. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
