Essie Merrill McClenney Perry, 80, of 114 W. Eden Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Mrs. Perry was born in Chowan County on April 13, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Vernon and Essie Harrell McClenney. The retired office manager of Western Gas, she was a member of Edenton Baptist Church and The Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jerry Gaster. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Lynn Perry; two daughters, Teresa Perry and husband Eddie of Edenton, and Patricia Casper and husband Ronnie of Tyner; a son, Lynn Perry and wife Sheila of Edenton; two brothers, Vernon McClenney of Suffolk, VA and Ellis McClenney of Portsmouth, VA; a sister, Faye Hutter of Danbury, CT; 10 grandchildren, Danny Ashley and wife Jackie, Kevin Ashley, Morgan White and husband Chad, Jamie Monds, Alan Monds and wife Kim, Casey White and husband Brian, Curtis Casper and wife Danielle, Dana Layden and husband Charlie, Heather Perry, and Lynn Weston Perry; and 10 great-grandchildren with another due to be born. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
