J. Russell Hollowell

   Joel Russell Hollowell, 59, of 165 Halsey Bay Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017, in Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.

   Mr. Hollowell was a lifelong resident of Perquimans County, born on February 10, 1958, and was the son of the late Joel F., Jr. and Oneita Hastings Hollowell. For many years he worked with the family business, Hollowell Oil Company, and more recently managed Hollowell Mobile Home Park, LLC, both located in the Winfall community. He attended Hertford Baptist Church.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Theron Hollowell.

   Surviving are his son, Joel Christopher Hollowell of Raleigh; his sister, Beth Hollowell Upton and husband Kelley of Camden; nephews, Tyler and Colby Sawyer; and a great-nephew, Beau Sawyer.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by The Rev. Don Carter. A private burial will follow on the family plot in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Tuesday, and other times at the home of his sister, 139 Scotland Road, Camden.
