Obed Lenwood Lee, 89, of 931 Soundside Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mr. Lee was born in Beaufort County on August 26, 1927, and was the son of the late Obed and Minnie Lucy Clark Lee. Retired from the North Carolina Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, he also worked as a bridge tender in both Perquimans and Chowan counties. A member of Cape Colony Church of Christ, and The Improved Order of Red Men, he had served for many years in the North Carolina National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Rae Edmondson Lee.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Jean Mosley and husband Reynold of Lynchburg, VA, and Donna Lang and husband Milton of Winterville; a son, Obed Lenwood Lee, Jr. and wife Jessica of Winder, GA; a sister, Virginia Williams of New Bern; a brother, Robert E. Lee of Gatesville; his longtime friend, Lucy Spruill of Roper; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by his nephew, The Rev. Terry Williams. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service and all other time at the residence.
