Jean Britton Perry

   Agnes Jean Britton Perry, 88, of 213 West Eden Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017, in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Perry was born in Chowan County on November 2, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Cola William and Agnes Annie Toppin Britton. After graduating from Chowan High School in 1945, she worked as an operator for North Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Co., later was a “stay at home” mom, and lastly worked with Vaughan’s Jewelry & Gifts. A faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church, its Mary Bethany Sunday School Class, and the E.L. Wells Circle, she sang in the Adult Choir for 40 years. Other services included her work in the Yeopim Extension Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Britton Warren and Evelyn Britton Nixon; her brothers, Fred, Alvin, and Junius Britton; and on December 23rd of 2016, by her husband of 64 years, Glenn Huylett Perry, Sr.

   Surviving are her daughter, Bonita Jean Perry McCall and husband David of Edenton; and two sons, Glenn Huylett Perry, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Raleigh, and Darren Randall Perry and wife Carol of Greenville. She was the loving grandmother to John David McCall, Olivia Britton Perry, and Elizabeth Brantley Perry; and also loved her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.

   Flowers are welcomed, or contributions in her memory may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville Street, Edenton, NC 27932, and be directed for use in the music ministry.
