Sallie Skinner Tarkington

   Sallie Nixon Skinner Tarkington, 74, of Old Neck Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Ridgewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Washington, NC, after battling cancer since 2003.      Sallie was born in Perquimans County on July 1, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Maisie Nixon Skinner. A retired Licensed Practical Nurse from P.P.C.C. District Health Department, she served as a Home Health Nurse, and followed her mother’s passion for nursing for 45 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hertford.      Surviving are her children, Frank Wayne Tarkington and his wife Barbie, and Sallie Elizabeth Farrar and her husband Charles, all of Greenville; five grandchildren, Brien Tarkington of Columbia and South Korea, Anna Claire and Hayden Tarkington, and Chelsea and Justin Farrar, all of Greenville; a sister, Beth Skinner Taylor of Edenton; a nephew, Gordon Jethro and his wife Libby of Greenville; and a very special cousin, Zula Skinner Lambert.      A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery and will be officiated by The Reverend Robert Beauchamp. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the home of her sister, 305 E. King Street, Edenton.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710.
