George Alvin Bunch, Sr., 76, of 1518 West Queen Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in Sentara Hampton Careplex, Hampton, VA.
Mr. Bunch was born in Chowan County on July 16, 1940, and was the son of the late Clarence and Dixie Harrell Bunch. Retired as the Assistant Postmaster in Edenton, he was a faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and had formerly taught Sunday School. An avid baseball fan of all levels of the game, some of his fondest memories were of days spent years ago playing with the Rocky Hock Orioles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thurrell Gray, Carlton, Edward, Ralph, and Lindsey Ray Bunch.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Adams Bunch; three sons, George Alvin “Al” Bunch, Jr. and his wife Lilly of Winston-Salem, Brian Adams Bunch and his wife Missie of Edenton, and Michael Lee Bunch of Camden, SC and his companion Mary Geneva Brackett of Charlotte; a sister, Carolyn Rogerson of Winfall; and six grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth, Lindsey Shaw, Holden Olsen, Connor Ellis, Samuel Williams, and Wyatt Douglas Bunch.
Following a private family burial in Beaver Hill Cemetery, a service of celebration will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Friends may join the family at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville Street, Edenton, NC 27932.
