On Thursday, July 13, 2017, The Reverend George Duane Wilmore, 77, of 168 Beech Springs Road, Hertford, NC, passed from this life into the Loving Arms of our Lord and Savior, and received his Heavenly Crown.
Rev. Wilmore was born February 22, 1940, in Montrose, PA, and was the son of the late Ralph Edgar and Betty Miller Wilmore. Faithfully serving as pastor of Great Hope Baptist Church from December 17, 2006 until his unexpected death, he also had served for many years as pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, also in Hertford, as well as several other Baptist Churches. A former volunteer with Albemarle Hospice, he was a motorcycle enthusiast, a member of the American Legion, and had served in the United States Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Millie Barber Wilmore; a brother, David Wilmore of Williamston; a sister, Shirley Warner and husband Al of Showlo, AZ; and two sons, Michael Wilmore of Sterling, VA, and Andy Wilmore of Orange, VA. Also surviving are Millie's sons, Paul Peaden and wife Cindy of Shallote, and Kris Peaden and wife Ruth of Buena Vista, VA; his "adopted" daughter, Anita Eure and husband Eddie of Hertford; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Together George and Millie shared six grandchildren, Ashley, Trent, Joshua, Steven, Jonathan, and Matilyn.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Great Hope Baptist Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. James Harrington, Director of the Chowan Baptist Association. Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service.
The graveside portion of the service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Martin Memorial Gardens, Williamston.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Great Hope Baptist Church, 131 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
