Laura Lee Davenport Riddick, 99, of 1080 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, in Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Riddick was born on April 27, 1918, and was the daughter of the late William Wilson and Ruth Berry Davenport. A retired customer service representative in the banking industry, she had also worked for many years at Perry Motor Company. A faithful member of Corinth Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School there for many years, was the secretary of the Junior High Youth Department for over 30 years, and for over 25 years was the chairman of the Flower Committee, where on an annual budget of just $200 provided fresh cut flowers in the church every Sunday.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Crowder "Pete" Riddick, and by her sister, Elsie Davenport Perry.
Surviving are two nieces, Ruth Ellen McCulloch of Kill Devil Hills, and Sara Lou Copeland of Elizabeth City; a nephew, Byron Perry of Elizabeth City; and several great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Corinth Baptist Church and will be officiated her pastor, Dr. Farren Roper. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the church social hall, and following that visitation, the burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 1035 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909-7628, and designated for use by the WMU Scholarship Fund.
