After growing up on the family farm, and serving two years in the United States Army, he went to work at the Thomas J. Lipton Company in Suffolk, VA for 31 years before retiring in 1991. A second career followed where he worked with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 16 years, retiring again in 2009.      A faithful member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon for more than 40 years, had served as Secretary of the Board, and in various other capacities within the church. In addition to his church, his family, and his friends, he enjoyed and admired antique vehicles.    With his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton Hobbs, and by Ronald Hobbs, and his wife Virginia.      Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jean Hollowell Hobbs; a son, Barry Hobbs, his wife Marcia, and their children, Rebecca and Jared Hobbs, all of Hobbsville; a brother, Jerry Hobbs, and wife Gail of Sunbury; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hobbs of Plano, TX; and several nieces and nephews.      Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church, and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Tim Dannelly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.      Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Hobbsville Baptist Church, P.O.
