James Arba Carver, Jr., 82, of 415 Evans-Bass Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, in his home where he was surrounded by his family.
Mr. Carver was born in Perquimans County on December 1, 1934, and was the son of the late James Arba Carver, Sr. and Sallie Riddick Carver. The former owner of Empire Storage & Van Company in Norfolk, VA, he had also been a driver for PIE Corp. A member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, and the Oak Grove Hunt Club, he was a veteran having served in the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Ann Cartwright; and by his brother, Daniel Andrew “D.A.” Carver.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 57 years, Marjorie Parrish Carver; two sons, James Arba Carver, III of Edenton, and John Michael Carver and wife Tracy M. Carver of Hertford; three grandchildren, Jennifer Wierzbowski of Lynchburg, VA, Dustin Carver of Chesapeake, VA, and Mason Rayhorn of Hertford; and three great-grandchildren, Kyra, Alaina, and Kelton.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by his pastor, Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Elizabeth City. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
