Thomas Alexander Dail, 91, of 271 Riverwood Drive, Hertford, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, Hertford.
Mr. Dail was born in Perquimans County on April 8, 1926, and was the son of the late John Bartlett and Dora Griffin Dail. Retired from the Equipment Department of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, he had also worked for many years as a clerk at Hertford Hardware Co. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a Medical Technician in North Africa, and for his service was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Occupation Medal of Japan. A member of American Legion Post #126, he also was a member of Hertford Baptist Church where he had formerly served on the Board of Deacons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Langdon Dail; his sisters, Isa Mae Jordan and Mary Frances Corprew; and by his brothers, Clifton, Clarence, Norfleet, Elgin, and Percy Dail.
Surviving are his son, Steve Dail and wife Brenda of Hertford; two grandchildren, Michael Dail and wife Ingrid, and Lisa Sawyer and husband Michael; six great-grandchildren, Langdon Dail, Benjamin Dail, Jaden Sawyer, Aniston Sawyer, Kursten Sawyer, and Xander Sawyer; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 pm in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by the Rev. Don Carter. Military Honors will be accorded in the chapel, and a private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and other times at Steve & Brenda's home, 271 Riverwood Drive.
