   Johnnie Lee Gregory, 70, of the 203 Two Mile Desert Road, Hertford, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2017, is his home where he was surrounded by his family.

   Mr. Gregory was born to the late Paul M. Gregory and Ruth L. Gregory on September 11, 1946, in Edenton, North Carolina. Affectionately known to his friends and classmates as "Kilroy", he completed his formal education in the Chowan County Public School System, and was later drafted into the United States Army. He served his country in the Vietnam War, and continued to provide that service through an additional 16 years in the Army Reserves. He fulfilled his childhood dream of being a bus driver in Manhattan, New York, and later after relocating to his hometown of Edenton, he continued his career as a Transit Bus Driver for 21 years with Albemarle Regional Health (ICPTA). He met the love of his life, Marilyn, and to this union were born two children, Brian and Chelsi. Johnnie's favorite hobbies were carpentry and fishing.

   Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Marilyn Gibson Gregory; his daughter, Chelsi Gregory Briscoe (RaShawn); his sons, Brian L. Gregory, Daryl Gregory, Johnnie Gregory, Jr., and Russell Gregory; his sisters, Saundra Gregory and Rosa Thomas (Curtis); his mother-in-law, Clara Gibson; his sisters-in-law, Sylvia Johnson and Julia Gregory; his brother-in-law, Ernest Hassell (Cheryl); nine grandchildren, Aubree, Layla, Jada, Daryl Jr., Evan, Brandon, Jarryd, Rebekah, and Kayla; and his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

   His family that preceded him in death were his granddaughter, Harper Rae Briscoe; his parents, Paul and Ruth Gregory; his sister, Doris Gregory; and his brother, Paul Gregory.

   A Celebration of His Life will be held Wednesday, August 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Deborah Poole. Military Honors will be accorded in the chapel.

   Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Wednesday, and other times at the home.
