Bunk was born in Williamston, NC on May 19, 1928, and was the son of the late William A. “Billy” Burroughs and Annie Mary Williams Burroughs. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater. Later in 1952, he married Mary Anne Johnson with whom he had two children, Stephen and Janet. Later in life, he attended Cape Colony Church of Christ. Other areas of enjoyment included membership in the Edward G. Bond Post 40 of the American Legion, and his service as Master of Unanimity Masonic Lodge #7. After retiring after 30 years of working in heating and cooling, Bunk married Linda Armstrong in 2012, a wonderful companion who loved him very much.
In addition to his parents, Bunk was preceded in death by his son, Stephen; his second wife, Linda; and by his five brothers, Cedric, William, Sutton, Hoston, and Polk Burroughs.
Surviving are his daughter, Janet Tysor and husband Larkin of Clayton; and his sister, Thelma Peele of Chesapeake, VA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by the Rev. Thomas Biggs, pastor of Cape Colony Church of Christ. A visitation for friends to join the family will be held in the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cape Colony Church of Christ, 831 Soundside Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
Janet wishes to express her deep appreciation to Bunk’s nephew, Joseph Peele of Chesapeake, who was truly like a son to him after the death of Bunk’s son, Steve. She also extends heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of Elmcroft of Northridge for their amazing support and outpouring of love shown to Bunk during his residence there, as well to herself during his final days.
