Eddie Wayne Nixon, 73, of Bumpus Cove Road, Erwin, TN, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Mr. Nixon was born in Chowan County, NC, on December 25, 1944, and was the son of the late John Lafayette Nixon, Sr. and Frances Yates Nixon. One of 13 children, he loved his family dearly. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served for nearly 5 years and received among others, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Expert Rifle Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Anne Mantooth; and two brothers, Ralph and Jerry Nixon.
Surviving are his longtime friend and companion, Donnie Love, and her daughters, Ginger Odell and Chita Williams of Erwin; his son, Jason Nixon (Jennifer) of Gastonia, NC; his daughter, Dail Midgette (Doyle) of Wendell, NC; and three grandchildren, Brandon Nixon, Dylan Midgette, and Courtney Stone. Also surviving are two sisters, Linda Terry (Bland) of Edenton, NC, and Betty Jones (Mac) of Nashville, NC; seven brothers, John Nixon (Dina) of New Braunfel, TX, George Nixon (Carol) of Richmond, VA, Ernest Nixon (Sandra) of Jacksonville, FL, Bill Nixon (Dae) of Corapeake, NC, Stanley Nixon (Juanita) of Hertford, NC, David Nixon (Junell) of Warrenton, NC; and Steven Mark Nixon (Susan) of St. Petersburg, FL; and a brother-in-law, Bill Mantooth of Sevierville, TN.
A visitation will be held Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Valley Funeral Home, 1085 North Main Ave., Erwin, TN.
Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Linda and Bland’s home, 2219 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton, with Military Rites being accorded by an Army Honor Guard. The family will assemble at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, at 10 a.m. in preparation for the procession to the grave.
