Ellsworth Henry Franklin, Jr.

   Ellsworth Henry Franklin, Jr., 85, of 133 Ainsley Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 in his home.

   Mr. Franklin was born in Fredericksburg, VA on August 17, 1932, and was the son of the late Ellsworth Henry, Sr. and Ruth Butler Franklin. A graduate of King George High School, he attended Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA before being drafted to serve in the Army during the Korean War. A retired Golf Professional, he enjoyed membership in The Professional Golf Association since 1961, and both the Mid-Atlantic and NC Golf Associations. A member of Hertford Baptist Church, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a Shriner.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Judson and Gary Franklin.

   Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Jo Elledge Franklin; two sons, Mitchell Franklin and wife Debbie of Manassas, VA and Wesley Franklin and wife Sheila of King George, VA; a daughter, Beverly Kidd and husband Mike of Deltaville, VA; a brother, Tommy Franklin and wife Patsy of Lansdowne, VA; two sisters-in-law, Zandra Franklin of Midlothian, VA and Randi Franklin of Falls Church, VA; five grandsons, Andrew Franklin and wife Jacque, and Scott and Aaron Franklin, Nicholas Kuhn and wife Monica and Jonathan Kuhn; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Andrew Franklin, Jr.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by his nephew, Stuart Pack, and by his pastor, The Rev. Don Carter. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and other times at the residence. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 7662 General Puller Hwy, Locust Hill, VA.
