Mattie Godwin Raudebaugh

   Mattie Ruth Godwin Raudebaugh, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at her home in Roanoke, VA, where she was surrounded by her family.

 

Mattie Godwin was born and raised in Wade, NC, and married James David Raudebaugh on December 13, 1959. A military wife and mother, she spent 25 years in the public school system, teaching 3rd and 5th grades, and was loved by many generations of students. She loved her family and spent the last seven years of her life living with each of her three children. Her grandchildren’s biggest advocate, she loved each and every one of them dearly. Gifted with a wonderful soprano voice, she played the piano and organ beautifully.

 

   She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leroy and Daisy Irene Godwin; her husband Jim; her brothers, John, Woody, George and Bill Godwin; and by her sisters, Sadie Tart and Evelyn Bryant.

 

   Mattie leaves behind her daughter, Suzi Leary of Edenton, her husband Roddy, and their children, Matthew, Ryan, and Sarah; her daughter, Gina Graham of Roanoke, her husband Barry, and their children, Graysen and Alexa Hagin; and her son, Dan Raudebaugh of Atlanta, GA, his wife Melissa, and their children, David, Rachel, Rebekah, Ross, and Madelyn.

 

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. The burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, where she be placed forever beside her loving husband Jim.

 

   Beginning Friday morning, friends may join the family at Suzi and Roddy’s home, 2410 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton.

 

   In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018, or online at www.goodsamhospice.com.
