Doris J. Toler

   Doris Jarvis Toler, 93, of 104 Long Lane, Edenton, NC, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

   Mrs. Toler was born in Beaufort County on June 7, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Edward Chadwick, Sr. and Gladiolus Norfleet Jarvis. Known in the community for her upholstery business in which she owned and operated for 50 years, she also was an instructor with College of the Albemarle, having taught her craft to many students through the years.  An active member of Cape Colony Church of Christ, she was a life member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of the William H. Coffield Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in various capacities.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levie Nicholason Toler; two daughters, Lyndia Dianne Trotman, and an infant daughter; a son-in-law, Leslie Hughes; an infant sister; and five brothers, James Lewis, Clarence, Phillip, Muriel, and Edward Jarvis, Jr.

   Surviving are her daughter, Lois Toler Hughes of Edenton; a son, Edward Earl Toler, Sr. and wife Patricia of Elizabeth City; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
