Jill Brown Lang

   Jill Brown Lang, 79, of 271 US Hwy 158 West, Gatesville, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 in her home.

   Mrs. Lang was born in Suffolk, VA, on June 15, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Grady and Margaret Greene Brown. A fourth grade teacher, she first taught at Gatesville Elementary, and then at Buckland School for 18 years before retiring. A faithful member of Gatesville Baptist Church, she served as the music director, pianist, and organist for over 50 years, worked for many years in the Vacation Bible School program, was the first woman named to serve as a Deacon, had been a Sunday School teacher, led Training Union, was a member of the WMU, and had served as director of the Chowan Baptist Association WMU.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 57 years, George L. Lang, Sr.; two children, Mary Beth Lang and Joseph Elmo Lang; and her daughter-in-law, Joan Lang.

   Surviving are a son, George Lewis Lang, Jr. of Gatesville; three daughters, Amy Lang Smitherman and husband David of Winston-Salem, Bonnie R. Lang of Sylva, and Judith Lang Simon and husband Eric of Seattle, WA; a sister, Ginny Asimos of Kitty Hawk; two brothers, Mac Brown of Colonial Heights, VA, and Ted Brown of Kitty Hawk; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Ray Brickhouse, assisted by the Rev. Tom Hall. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the residence, or in the church fellowship hall following the funeral service on Sunday.
