Lena Mae Sawyer Harrell

   Lena Mae Sawyer Harrell, 89, of Woodland Church Road, Hertford, NC, died Friday, October 20, 2017 in Brookdale of Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Harrell was born in Chowan County on September 22, 1928, and was the daughter of the late William Loranzo and Etta Twiddy Sawyer.  A homemaker, she was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Vernon Harrell; her daughter, Dr. Linda Ann Harrell, PhD; a grandson, Jason Padron; and by a sister, Peggy Sawyer.

   Surviving are her son, Douglas Vernon Harrell and wife Nancy of Hertford; a brother, William L. "Bill" Sawyer of Hertford; four grandchildren, Nancy Ann, Robert, Che, and Jesse; and a great-grandson, Christopher.

   A private graveside service will be held Thursday in Cedarwood Cemetery.  Friends may join the family at the home of her granddaughter, Nancy Ann, 504 Woodland Church Road, Hertford.   Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the physicians, nurses, and staff of  both Community Home Care and Hospice and Brookdale of Elizabeth City for the compassionate care given to their loved one.
