Margaret Ann Myers Goodwin, 82, of Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 in her daughter’s home in Garner.
Mrs. Goodwin was born in Lenoir County on February 19, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Johnnie F. and Louie Del Dail Myers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earlie Loraine Goodwin, Jr.; her son, Michael Warren Goodwin; and by her brothers, John, Gene, and Jake Myers.
An active member of Hertford United Methodist Church, she treasured serving with the United Methodist Women in many roles and singing in the choir. After her retirement from Estes Express Lines, she enjoyed helping others in many ways and volunteering at the Open Door Food Bank. She always looked forward to time spent with her family and especially her four grandchildren. Being outside in the fresh air, she enjoyed her garden, flowers, and the birds and butterflies that visited. She had a special love for her dogwood trees that bloom so beautifully in the spring and the hummingbirds that return each summer. A lover of animals, the many pets in her life were always thought of as family. She loved to play cards, especially playing Rook and Bridge. Although she could have a competitive spirit, it was the time spent with friends that was important to her.
Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Goodwin Carey and husband John of Garner; a sister, Glennie Miller and husband William Ray of Winfall; four grandchildren, Kyle and Timothy Goodwin, and Grayson and Sophie Carey; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church, and will be officiated by The Revs. K. Bryan Sexton, Jr. and Jon Strother. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point, Hertford, and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hertford U.M.C., 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944, or to a church or charity of one's choice.
