Joann Tompkins Brown

   Joann Tompkins Brown, 83, of 210 Thick Neck Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Vidant Chowan Hospital.

 

   Mrs. Brown was born in Pickens County, SC on April 7, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Bettie Alsep Tompkins. She attended high school in Clinton, SC, and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Furman University. A retired medical transcriptionist, she had worked for many years at Chowan Hospital, and later was self-employed contracting her work with several companies in the medical field. The wife of the late Rev. Eddie B. Brown, she was a Baptist by faith, and supported her husband in his life’s work as God called him to different communities to pastor.

 

   In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Clarence Edward Brown; and by her sister, Mildred Tompkins Rice.

 

   Among her survivors are her son, Robert E. Brown of Edenton; and extended family members and friends.

 

   A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by The Rev. Thomas Biggs. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
