Cecil Edward Winslow

   Cecil Edward Winslow, 88, of 723 Gaston Drive, Hertford, NC, died Thursday, November 2, 2017, in the Palliative Care Unit at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

 

   Mr. Winslow was born in Perquimans County on February 27, 1929, and was the son of the late Cecil Calvert and Lucille Brothers Winslow.

 

   Football was one of Mr. Winslow’s passions having played for both Perquimans County High School and East Carolina Teacher’s College. An Air Force veteran, he had served 20 years in both active and reserve duty where he earned the rank of Major. He was a three time Master Mason having earned his 50-year service award in 2001, and was a Shriner. Other community involvement included having served as President of the Hertford Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of the Perquimans County Republican Party. An active member of Hertford United Methodist Church, he also enjoyed membership in the William Paul Stallings Post 126 of the American Legion, and was an avid boater who spent many sunny days on the Perquimans River with his family. As President and owner of Winslow-Blanchard Motor Company, he greatly enjoyed selling Fords to people throughout northeastern North Carolina. He continued to assist his friends later at Albemarle Motor Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Cobb.

 

   Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Elva Mann Winslow; his son, Cecil E. "Buck" Winslow, Jr. of Raleigh; three daughters, Denise Ellis, and Linda Speary and husband Cabe, both of Edenton, and Suzanne Phelps and husband Mike of Roper; a sister, Marjorie Hoskins of Everetts; four grandchildren, Kimberly Skipper, Dylan Phelps, Marisa Ellis, and Jackson Speary; and three great-grandchildren.

 

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church, and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Bryan Sexton. A private burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
