Joyce Curry Esbensen

   Joyce Curry Esbensen, 74, of Albemarle Blvd., Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 in Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA.

   Mrs. Esbensen was born in Washington, D.C. on February 28, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Auford Curry and Pearl Grimes Ritondale. A retired executive assistant from Exxon Mobil, she attended both St. Anne Catholic Church and Hertford United Methodist Church where she served as co-president in its Alleluia Circle. Other community involvement in which she found great joy included having recently volunteered with the Kairos Prison Ministry.

   In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Arnt Esbensen; step-father, Raymond J. Ritondale, and by her step-mother, Mary Ellen Curry.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Laura Huber and husband Kent of Centreville, VA and Cindy Tinkham and husband Keith of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Paul Crouch of Spruce Pine; three brothers, Joseph Curry of Manassas, VA, Raymond Ritondale of Burr Hill, VA, and Richard Ritondale of Bristow, VA; eight grandchildren, Jason, Holly, Lindsay, Nicholas, Chase, Taylor, Cody, and Hayden; and seven great-grandchildren, along with another baby girl due in January.

   Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Bryan Sexton. Graveside services will be held the following day on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA. Friends may join the family Sunday, November 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
