Ruby Wheeler Vopelak

   Ruby Ann Wheeler Vopelak, 86, of Paradise Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in Vidant Chowan Hospital.

   Mrs. Vopelak was born in Chowan County on September 21, 1931, and was the last surviving of 11 children born to the late Doppie and Lillie Gay Wheeler. Formerly employed as a nurse’s aide at Chowan Hospital, for many years she provided in home health care for the elderly. She was raised in the fellowship of The First Christian Church in the Historic Mill Village of Edenton.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, including two infants, sisters, Bertha, Rose, and Emma Lou, and brothers Joe Herman, Russell, Boy D, Wilbur, and Buck.

   Surviving are two daughters, Mary Vopelak Waff and husband Perry, and Kimberly Vopelak Spruill, all of Edenton; four grandchildren, Shaun Waff, Beth Ann Boyce, Randy Michael Boyce, Jr., and Adam Joseph Boyce and wife Katie; and two great-grandchildren, Summer Capehart and Maci Boyce.

   A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery, and will be conducted by the Rev. Jay Rivenbark. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Beth Ann, 3811 Rocky Hock Road, both in Edenton.
